Who we are
Light in the Well is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Minneapolis, Minnesota (EIN 87-3596151). Our mission is to build bridges between people with and without disabilities through shared creative music and storytelling experiences. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect through lightinthewell.org, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Information we collect
Information you provide to us
- Partnership and general inquiries. When you use our contact form, we collect your name, email address and the topic you choose, plus any phone number, role, organization, location, partnership interests, and message you choose to provide, so we can respond to you. We also email a copy of your message to the address you give us. The form is protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, which checks that a person rather than an automated program is sending it; to do this it processes technical information such as your IP address and browser characteristics.
- Donations. When you give through our Give page, your gift is processed by Givebutter, a third-party donation platform, not by us directly. Givebutter collects your name, email address, and payment details; we do not receive or store your payment card information on our website. Depending on your communication preferences, we may receive your name, email address, and gift amount from Givebutter so we can send a thank-you note and tax receipt. Because we are a registered 501(c)(3), donations are tax-deductible and we keep the records required to support that. See Givebutter’s privacy policy for how they handle your data.
- Event registration. RSVPs and registration for individual events are usually handled through an external link on the event page — for example, a partner school, venue, or our Givebutter page — rather than collected directly on this website.
Information collected automatically
Like most websites, our server automatically logs standard technical information when you visit — such as your IP address, browser type, the pages you view, and the referring page. We use this only for security, spam prevention, and basic troubleshooting. We do not use Google Analytics or any third-party advertising tools. Some embedded content and our accessibility toolbar come from third-party services, described below.
Cookies
We use only the cookies necessary for the site to work properly:
- Login and session cookies for staff members who manage the website.
- Cookies and browser storage set by our on-site accessibility toolbar, which is provided by UserWay, to remember display settings you choose (such as contrast or text size) between visits.
We do not set cookies to track you across other websites or to serve targeted advertising. Third-party services embedded on our pages may set their own cookies, as described in their privacy policies: Givebutter’s donation widget, the UserWay accessibility toolbar, and Instagram posts embedded on some story pages.
How we use your information
We use the information described above to:
- Respond to your questions, partnership inquiries, and messages;
- Process and acknowledge donations, and issue tax receipts;
- Keep our website secure and functioning properly; and
- Improve the accessibility and usability of our content.
How we share your information
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share information only:
- With service providers who help us operate the site and process donations on our behalf — currently Givebutter (donation processing), UserWay (the on-site accessibility toolbar), Cloudflare (spam protection on our contact form), and our website hosting provider — and only to the extent needed for them to provide that service; or
- If required by law, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Light in the Well, the people we serve, or others.
Third-party links and embedded content
Our website embeds content from third parties, including our Givebutter donation widget, the UserWay accessibility toolbar, YouTube videos, and Instagram posts on some story pages. It also links to partner organizations, ticketing pages, and social media. When a page loads embedded content, your browser connects directly to that service, which can receive your IP address and may set its own cookies. We play YouTube videos in YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode, but video thumbnails are still loaded from YouTube’s servers.
These third parties have their own privacy practices, and we encourage you to review them; each one’s privacy policy is linked below. Light in the Well is not responsible for how they handle your information.

How long we keep your information
